A doctor who has the little qualification and works in a rural area is called a village doctor. A village doctor is an important person in the village. He is a familiar figure. He is generally not qualified but a quack. He receives some training by working under a qualified doctor for some years. His dispensary is situated in a village market or at his own house. His dispensary is decorated with an almirah, a chair, and a bench. He sits in his dispensary in the morning and works till late evening. He treats the patients very carefully. He takes small fees from them but he often gives free treatment to the poor patients. Sometimes patients die because of his maltreatment. He holds a high position in society. He is loved and respected by all. He is not only a doctor but also a good friend of the villagers. He renders beneficial service to the villagers. Sometimes he goes to the house of the village to treat the patients.
